So, I was thinking the other day...

When it comes to pen-and-paper RPGs, I'm not really a gamer anymore; I'm a collector. At this point, the reason for buying or trading for a new book is to have the book, not to have a cool new area to explore in my game. I don't have a gaming group; I haven't had one in 13 years. (damn, I feel old now.)

I should have written this down when it hit me, possibly yesterday, at work. I think I had a point.

I still game semi-regularly but I have become more of a collector. I like owning a variety of games, many of which I may never actually run or play. What's stopping you from seeking out a group? Are you less into the gaming side of things, or just lacking enough interested friends to really get a game going?

You could always consider the play by post style. I have yet to do so myself but it seems like something where you only have to log on and "play" a few times a day. It seems like a quick diversion that doesn't require the same amount of free time that becomes such a pain to organize.

The area I'm in is Extreeeemely rural. Like southern Mississippi rural. Finding the books locally is an adventure in itself.

As for interested friends: none. There are some folks who game in the area, but most of them are a good 30+ miles away. I drive enough for work, plus now I work nights almost exclusively.

I don't mind being a collector. One day, I'm going to use the stuff I've read and mix all the ideas that are stewing and get off my ass and sit down and write something worthwhile. Maybe game related, maybe not.

Play by Post always looks interesting, but I think I'm to the point that I'm too lazy to actually do it. I'll try to explain that later.

I know what you mean. I keep thinking I could manage to run or play in a play by post game but never get around to finding one to get into. I also feel your pain as far as tracking down material. Our local Waldenbooks carries D20, and that's it. So I hunt for odd games all the time. For example I'm currently geeked to get my hands on The Edge of Midnight.
